About Our Farm

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Rock Creek Boxwood Farm has been a locally-owned and family-run business since 1984. Many of our Boxwood bushes, however, pre-date our own arrival, some originating from as far back as the 1940s.

We specialize in three types of Boxwood bushes. American (Common) Boxwoods Buxus Sempervirens, English Boxwoods Buxus Sempervirens 'Suffruticosa', and Wintergreen (Korean) Boxwoods Buxus Sinica var. Insularis.

Why Boxwood Bushes?

Boxwood Bushes, or Buxus, are extremely versatile plants which can be used as individual specimens (potted or free-growing), hedges, topiary - sculpted into fantastical shapes, parterres - ornamental patterned gardens, privacy screens, and to either accentuate a feature of the house or garden or to hide something unsightly such as external heating or cooling units.

According to the American Boxwood Society, there are approximately 160 cultivated varieties of Boxwood each with different characteristics and soil requirements. The three varieties which we grow at Rock Creek Farm were specifically chosen for their excellent year-round color, extreme resiliency, resistance to deer, and low maintenance making these bushes ideal for many gardening and landscaping applications.
